Another reason to celebrate this past week, POOP IN THE POTTY! YEAH! YEAH! YEAH! I put him on the potty right before his nap time because that is when he has been holding out to go in his diaper. We read a few books and then I decided, maybe you need some privacy. Who really likes someone watching them take a poop? Not 5 minutes had passed since I had left and I hear from the bathroom, "I DID IT!! I NEED MY SURPRISE! COME CHECK!" Kerry and I never would have thought we would be so thrilled about a poop in the potty. Ok, maybe I was thrilled about my first poop after birthing Caleb, but that is another story for another time.
I had picked up a new sandbox toy the day before, keeping it on hand to entice him with a surprise for going poop in the potty. Apparently it worked and he went! The excitement was too much, he couldn't take his nap, just wanted to play with his new sandbox toy! I didn't mind, was just so proud of this accomplishment. Its funny, I had originally promised a big lollipop, but then figured that is not reward enough in his eyes, gotta up the reward, hence the sandbox toy. The little guy has a memory like no other and after his quiet time in the room, proceeds to ask for his big lollipop and I had to cave and give it to him for doing so well. His response to me, "Momma. You so nice to me." Melted my heart, but Kerry called me a SUCKER. Sucker I will be for my little man pooping in the potty!
Since the poop in the potty, we have only had accidents in our underoos. My timing has been off again because he has done morning and afternoon poops, when it was just afternoon before nap time for the past few weeks. This morning I seriously asked him if he had to go poopy on the potty and not five minutes later I find Nemo soiled with POOP! After lunch today he sat in there for an HOUR, reading, having some privacy and every time I tried to say we were done trying, he kept saying, "No. I am still finishing." A term he uses a lot when he doesn't want to do something he is asked. It was way past his nap time so I pulled him off and put on his diaper. Seriously, 5 minutes later he pooped in his diaper! AHHHHHHHHHHH! Almost had it this time.
Going pee in the potty is a breeze now. On occasion we might have an accident because he still does not let us know when he has to go. I still ask him and he will say no, but then I take him anyway and he will go. I guess he cannot anticipate the need just yet, not sure but he certainly will hold out until I take him, so he is learning where it should go. My next task is figuring out this poop time table. Do we sit at 9am or 10am, 130pm? If only he could give me notice.
I am thankful we have not had a poop accident outside of the house....not looking forward to that one! Wish us luck as we continue on this potty train!
