Caleb loved his pillow pet so much from his birthday that he wanted everyone to have one for Christmas. I was all for it since they are so very comfortable and Caleb wasn't so willing to share his! He kept telling me that he would get me a Ladybug pillow pet, even when we were out shopping and he would see one, he would say, "A ladybug pillow pet for you!" I kept telling him that he can't buy my present when I am with him. He told me to cover my eyes! I picked up a Dolphin for Kieran and a Monkey for Daddy. Letting Caleb in on gifts he has gotten for people doesn't go over well so I kept those a secret til Christmas Eve. When he went shopping with Daddy, he came home and told me, "I got you a Ladybug pillow pet and a dinosaur. Its a secret." You gotta love his heart. He just makes me laugh and laugh, but I am so GLAD I got my very own pillow pet! Kerry asked me the day after Christmas, "You aren't really using that as a pillow are you?" "Oh yes I am!" Besides pillow pets, we all got a few more things wrapped under the tree. It was nice to celebrate Christmas on our own but also sad to not have our families with us.
We gave Caleb his first advent calendar this year too so he would learn and understand the meaning of Christmas. That its not just about presents under the tree and Santa, but about the birth of our Savior. I think after a few days of eating chocolates behind the doors, it finally stuck because he gladly told the librarian, "Merry Christmas, its Jesus' birthday!" Of course he likes the gifts most of all, what kid doesn't? Today in the car he said, "Santa didn't bring my camaro." I told him that Santa can't fit everything in his sleigh as he has a lot of kids to deliver presents too, that he should be happy with all of the wonders he received as there are many kids less fortunate than him who don't get anything at all. I am not sure he understands that concept.
This Christmas I decided to make charitable donations for my Dad and Gran as their gifts. They have so much already that finding special gifts outside of family photos is sometimes hard. This year I made a contribution to http://www.charitywater.org/ and http://embraceglobal.org/ as their gifts. Check them out. The Embrace Infant warmer is pretty cool and very cheap to provide to a baby in need.
It was also nice to have a White Christmas. The snow may have not fallen when I was awake, but as long as it was on the ground I was happy. I hope everyone had a glorious holiday with their loved ones.
