4 months!

I just took Kieran in for his 4 month well check and he was a nice 14.7 lbs and nearly 25 inches tall! Caleb was very helpful to the doctor, wanting to help with all of her gadgets as little brother got examined! Kieran was smaller than Caleb at birth, but so far has outweighed his brother at this point! It will be interesting to see how the growth differences continue. Will the little brother turn into the little "big" brother?

Kieran is smiling and starting to giggle or squeak along with lots of drool! I remember at this time Caleb wore a bib everyday all day because there was so much! He is a super happy baby, always smiling with wide eyes, such a wonder to look at! He is holding onto toys and his binky (mostly pulling it out of his mouth!) and chewing on everything! I have a permanent drool spot on my right shoulder when he is resting there! He is sleeping great. I actually put him down without being swaddled last night for the first time and he did just fine! He usually found a way to get his little hands out to suck on anyways, so I decided to let him be free in a sleepsack!

Kerry was just saying how amazing it is that he survives on breast milk alone for 6 months of life. It just got me thinking how I take that precious time for granted sometimes. I am the sole provider of his nourishment. God designed my body to nourish my child sufficiently with all he needs. That is amazing to really sit back and ponder the wonder of it all. My goal is always 6 months and Caleb weaned himself close to that time. I tell myself now that I will not miss nursing because sometimes it can be an inconvenience, especially having a toddler to look after, but once Kieran gets older and no longer needs just breast milk for nourishment, I am sure it will hit me. This is it. This is our last baby and this bonding time is priceless. He no longer depends on me alone.

He is growing so fast, I can hardly believe we are in month 4. I love to check off all of the things the doctor's list says he should be doing at each stage. Drooling, check. Smiling and cooing, check. Finding their hands, check. Kicking, check. Oh my, can this boy kick! Its so fun to watch all over again. You kind of forget this stage when nearly 3 years have passed since you experienced it!
