I should have known this flight was in trouble when they first announced no pilots were available. Luckily they found some and we were on our way! We push back from the gate around 7:15pm and stop for about a half hour waiting on a new route due to the weather in Phoenix. During this time, the crazy thunderstorms erupted heavily and we continued to wait and wait and wait some more. Engine off. "Folks, you may have noticed the engine turn off. Well, the airport is shut down and we have about 35 planes in line behind us." There were times when we could have our phones on so I would update my sister who was awaiting my arrival. She headed to the airport once when our flight status showed I was inbound for arrival at 10:05pm. I called around that time and she thought I had landed.....little did she know that her sister and nephew were still on the runway in Phoenix! Caleb was a trooper this entire time! He was restless a few times, but for the most part, quite content being stuck on an airplane for 4 hours! Yes, 4 hours we waited on the runway before we headed back to the gate. One guy said to me, "This must be the worst day of your life?" I am not sure about worst, but it will definitely invade my memory for years to come. We deplaned around 11:30pm and were told to hang out at the gate as the cancellation of the flight was undecided. I didn't really have much choice since my car seat was checked on the plane! 12:15am, they board us and state, "We are taking another chance as some planes are departing. We may go, we may not." Fantastic! I would love to board this plane again and sit for the remainder of the night until they decide! The takeoff line was long and we finally departed about 1am. Caleb thankfully conked out when we boarded so he had a nice nap until we arrived in Sacramento. We finally land about 2:45am, Caleb wide awake, but somewhat of a zombie at this point. All I could do was apologize to Caleb throughout this whole ordeal. I figure if we survived this, we can survive anything! He was amazing! Once again, I was a proud mother.
My sister had a lovely bbq planned for us so I am thankful our flight did not cancel. We had some good quality time with my family and old friends. Caleb acted like nothing had happened! He is a wonder baby!
