When Caleb found out I was going to the dentist a few weeks ago, he wanted to go too so I told him I would make him an appointment. Being nearly 3, it was the perfect time to go. He has been so excited about having an "appointment." He had also been wanting a fire truck so I told him I would get a fire truck as his reward for being good at the dentist. Getting him excited about the dentist and his reward totally made our first dental appointment a successful one!
When th

e hygienist called him back and asked if he was ready, he responded, "I'm going to get a fire truck with a big ladder." She sat him down in the chair and put the the clippy towel around his neck and he responds, "She gave me a necklace!" She was entertained by his little comments throughout the visit and thought he was so funny! I was quite impressed with his behavior and willingness to lay down in the chair, open his mouth and get a cleaning. She even scraped some plaque and flossed his teeth! He loved the bubble gum flavored toothpaste and has been wanting to brush and spit most of the afternoon! I nearly cried watching my little boy get his first teeth cleaning. I didn't know what to expect going in, whether he would sit nicely or throw a fit and refuse it. The best part was finding out after 3 years that he did not have a cavity! Not one! When she finished the cleaning, Caleb was handed a certificate of bravery for doing such a good job!
After his appointment we headed out to get his fire truck. We called Daddy on the phone to tell him the good news. "Daddy, I did a great job at the dentist."
