Today, I celebrate my 8th wedding anniversary with Kerry. Its hard to believe I walked down the aisle to the man I fell in love with prior to actually meeting that long ago. No, we didn't meet online. Most of you know our story. I have been called a "stalker," but I like to call it my love story.
After I transferred to SDSU from CSU Sacramento in the Fall of 98, my roommate and I got involved with the college group at a local church that was recommended to us. We slowly started to meet some friends and I started to make a list of potentials. Now, this is funny coming from me because I am very shy around guys. I think I went on a few dates in high school and some school dances, that is about it. I was just plain nervous around the opposite sex! I think I had a list of maybe 5, but Kerry was always number 1. He stole my heart the night he sang "Stairway to Heaven" with the college band. Not typically the singer, but I guess was performing for fun. His fun, outgoing personality gave me butterflies. A complete opposite of myself, but so cute! That night after we got home, I told my roommate at the time, "I am going to marry him. Just you wait." She laughed.
A month or so had gone by and we still hadn't met except a friendly hello at the door. I just admired him from afar, too shy to spark up a conversation. I mingled with the others on my list, some who now had girlfriends so they had to be crossed off, but Kerry was always numero uno. It was at a college football game that I asked a mutual friend to introduce us. Please. I can't take this anymore! So we finally met and I apparently sparked some interest in him as well. We were more social at church, found common interests in movies and music. I was in heaven! I would seriously dream of having my own "Say Anything" experience with Kerry standing outside my apartment window with a boombox over his head, playing my favorite song. I would run out and jump into his arms and we would live happily ever after! That never happened, but he is my Lloyd Dobler. I found him! We went on our first date November of 98, married on July 14th, 2001.
These past 8 years have been filled with fun, love and petty arguments. We have private jokes that have been shared over time that are only special and funny to us. "Member. Sharks eat people." Yes of course there are days of anger and frustration between us, but love prevails. After 6 years of enjoying each other, we brought a beautiful boy into this world to share it with us. We would never have him if we didn't have one another. God is good. I am so blessed.
Happy Anniversary buddy, I love you!
