Time for a haircut!

Yesterday I attempted to try a "mother/son haircut day" but that didn't go as planned. I have been going to Great Clips by my house, but for some reason every senior citizen in Mesa was waiting in line. What the heck? I was set on getting hair cuts, so I drove to my 2nd choice, (which use to be my 1st choice for most of my life, but that is another story for another time) Supercuts. They had no wait when we walked in, the stylist attempted to be friendly with Caleb, but he was not about to sit in the chair with a cape. His face filled with panic and I knew only 1 of us would be getting a haircut today. Caleb sat there quietly, lollipop tightly held in his hand with no attempt at licking it just yet. At one point, he smiled at me and said "Momma." Precious are those words to me now.

We left Supercuts and I thought to try a kids salon to see if that would be more inviting for Caleb. Normally, his Nana trims his hair, but it has gotten really long and he was just due for a nice all around cut. Question is, would he sit still long enough to get that done? I went into Lollilocks, but they didn't have an appointment until today, so I booked one. They had bins of balls which Caleb loves to play with and when our name was first called, Caleb went running in the opposite direction. We sat down in the chair and she tried to cape him, but he was not having a cape. Luckily I brought his bib along which is not much different from a cape, but it helped to protect him from some hair. She started spraying his head and trimming and I was amazed at how calm he was. Another gal helped a ton by blowing bubbles at Caleb. He had so much fun trying to catch them. It preoccupied him from the haircut. He had some toys to play with as well, but the bubbles did the job! I thought to myself, what a nice job to have. Blowing bubbles for kids while they get their haircut.

I offered Caleb a lollipop a little too soon for being so good. It managed to collect a bunch of his hair and it was really gross! I had to take it away before he ingested too much hair which upset him, but I promised him a balloon from Trader Joe's. Even better. All of his long locks are gone for now, but he looks so handsome and clean cut. Yeah for Lollilocks!

I survived 2 kids: Part 2

I got to watch baby Brody again yesterday and by noon I questioned whether it was possible to care for 2 kids at once. My helper Caleb, turned into jealous Caleb. He would whine and sadly say, "Momma. Momma. Momma" if I held Brody. I pulled out a play mat for Brody to lay under and I was reminded of the big kid bullies at Barro's pizza last week who did not want Caleb in the playhouse because he was little. Caleb wanted to play with the toys hanging down and pulled the contraption apart at one point. I didn't want a bully kid so I quickly packed up the mat and moved onto something else. When it was time for Caleb to eat lunch, Brody was hungry too and feeding two kids at once is no party! Caleb learned patience by spilling his cup of water on the floor, entertaining himself for a bit by splashing in the small puddle.

By noon Brody had fallen asleep and Caleb was due shortly for a nap as well. I was in need of a break and some peace. After naps, my mind had changed about caring for 2 kids. They were joyful and calm, playing nicely together. I rocked them both in my lap at one point and felt there was no other place I'd rather be. It was a squeaky rocking chair of love!

Caleb still loves babies, but he showed me that he can get jealous if all of my attention is not on him. Kerry reminded me that it will be different when a baby is around all of the time. Okay, I feel better about having another one!

I survived 2 kids!

My friend Sarah asked me to watch her son yesterday as her sitter was out of town. Brody is 4.5 months old, born a week shy of Caleb's first birthday! I have to say I was a bit nervous, but was delighted to offer my help to a good friend. Plus it would give me practice for when the time comes to care for two kids! Brody is a wonderful baby. Barely makes any peeps, except smiles and laughter when Caleb would entertain him. He slept twice for about 15 minutes which was not usual behavior. He did not care for the swing as much as he did my sling! He loved hanging out, attached to my hip!

I must admit it became a bit stressful when it was feeding time for Brody, only because Caleb would need something and I couldn't really manage both at the same time. Caleb was a great help to me though. When changing Brody's diaper, he brought me his toy without being asked. He liked to help push the swing and make him laugh. When it was time for Brody to go home, he waved bye bye to his little friend.

Today after breakfast, Caleb walked around the living room looking for "baby." It was so cute. He loves babies! I get to watch Brody again next week for another day, but I welcome the practice. I give much credit to mom's of multiple children! It is hard work!
